A man attacked inside a Newark Central apartment earlier in the month has died from his injuries.
RLS Metro brought you the incident in our morning segment on December 4th where police were called to an apartment complex in the 60's block of Irvine Turner Boulevard, at around 12:20 a.m., after receiving reports of a person suffering injuries at that location.
Upon officer's arrival at the scene, they found a severely injured **Mr. Mufee Melvin, 26,** unconscious and unresponsive suffering a massive head injury after he was attacked with an object at the hands of an unidentified person. Preliminary reports said that Mr. Melvin was asleep in bed during the attack.
EMS rushed Melvin to University Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on December 11th at around 5:30 p.m.
According to Newark officials, officers searched the area for a suspect, later identified as **Tasheed Brown, 26,** who authorities said knew Mr. Melvin and that the incident was a "domestic quarrel."
Authorities said they placed Brown under arrest at around 2 p.m. on December 5th in the 300 block of Clinton Avenue and officially charged him with Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.
As of 3:32 a.m. today -Friday- our staff could not confirm if Brown's charges were escalated to homicide by the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.

The incident remains under investigation.
