Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, and Livingston Police Chief Gary Marshuetz announced today that the Livingston Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating a fatal pedestrian incident.
Police say on Saturday, Sept. 29, John L. Peebles, 51, of Newark was struck and killed while walking eastbound on South Orange Avenue in Livingston at approximately 11:16 p.m.
The driver of the car remained at the scene. Peebles was pronounced dead at approximately 11:44 p.m. according to police.
The investigation is active and ongoing. No charges have been filed against the driver at this time.
