Police said a masked man with a hangun carjacked a white 2013 Mercedes truck from a parking lot of The Mills at Jersey Gardens Sunday night.
On Sunday, at approximately 9 p.m., patrol units were dispatched to The Mills at Jersey Gardens, located at 651 Kapkowski Rd., on a report of a carjacking.
Upon arriving, officers spoke with a 27-year-old Newark resident who stated that while attempting to enter his vehicle (a white 2013 Mercedes truck) in the mall parking lot, he was approached from behind by an armed black male who was wearing a green ski mask (no further description).
The male demanded the victim's keys, which he handed over. The suspect immediately entered the vehicle, and sped off towards the mall exit.
The victim was not injured.
An extensive search for the vehicle proved negative.
Detectives from the Elizabeth Police Department Detective Bureau are investigating.
