Three people were arrested last night following a police chase of stolen car that ended in Newark, authorities said.
Hillside officers monitoring traffic on Maple Avenue, performed a random check of a Honda's license plate which revealed the car was stolen out of Newark.
Officers attempted to stop the Honda, which was later determined was driven by Israel J. Rosado, 28, of Newark, but the car disregarded their signal and accelerated the vehicle’s speed north on Maple Avenue and into Newark.
A pursuit ensued through various streets in Newark. In the area of Elizabeth Avenue and East Peddie Street, Rosado drove onto the sidewalk to avoid colliding with a NJ Transit bus which popped one of the front tires of the Honda.
Moments later an occupant threw a green clutch type purse from the vehicle, which was later recovered and found to contain (6) hypodermic needles, a glassine envelope containing suspected heroin, and another empty glassine envelope.
As the pursuit continued on Delancey Street, a Newark police unit joined the pursuit. The pursuit came to a stop in the area of 91 Bay Avenue where all the occupants were taken into custody.
Along with Rosado, two other occupants of the vehicle were arrested at the scene, Malik A. Greene, 28, of Newark and Vanessa M. Pagan, 35, of Kearny.
All three occupants are charged with receiving stolen property (Honda).
Rosado is also charged with possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, attempting to elude police, possession of a hypodermic needle, and driving while suspended. He is also wanted by Sayreville on a $1000 warrant. He is being held at Hillside Police Headquarters, pending transport to the Union County Jail on $25,000 bail.
Pagan was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. She also has an outstanding $3000 warrant from Newark. She is being held in Hillside pending pickup by Newark PD.
Greene is also wanted on warrants from East Orange and Newark totaling $806. He is also being held in Hillside pending pickup by Newark PD.
