A three-alarm fire on Sherman Avenue that injured four firefighters and displaced as many as 13 people was placed under control this morning.
According to authorities, at approximately 7:59 a.m., crews responded to 150 Sherman Avenue for a report of a fire at an unoccupied three-story residential building.
The fire spread to 152 Sherman Avenue, a three-family, occupied structure where two additional adults, who were not at home during the fire, also reside.
Two fire captains were injured while fighting the three-alarm fire--one by falling debris and the second for smoke inhalation.
Both have been transported to University Hospital for treatment.
According to authorities, two other firefighters suffered minor injuries but they were treated and released.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by Members of the Newark Fire Division’s Arson Unit.
