Authorities have confirmed that members of the Police Division’s Emergency Services Unit (E.S.U.) rescued a distressed man who was threatening to jump from the Passaic River Bridge this morning.
Accoridng to authoriries, at approximately 5:30 a.m., police responded to the bridge after a caller reported a man threatening to jump.
E.S.U. members talked the man down, although Newark Fire Division had dispatched a rescue boat to the scene.
The bridge was closed temporarily during the rescue, which was completed at approximately 6:58 a.m. authorities said.
The man was transported to University Hospital by EMS for evaluation.
“I commend members of the Emergency Services Unit and Fire Division for their quick action and skills in preserving lives,” Director Ambrose said. “Today’s rescue showed great coordination by police, fire and EMS.”
