Newark

By: Richard L. Smith

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force is actively investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early Monday morning in Newark, as they search for the suspects responsible for the crime.

According to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas Fennelly, Newark police officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 100 block of Chadwick Avenue. AdUpon arrival, officers discovered 33-year-old Mr. Darryl A. Craft suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Craft was quickly transported to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:54 a.m.

Authorities are now exploring whether Craft's murder is connected to another violent incident that occurred less than 24 hours later in the same neighborhood.

In the second shooting, over two dozen rounds of gunfire erupted near the intersection of Chadwick Avenue and Clinton Avenue, forcing residents to take cover.

Officers from the South Ward Police Headquarters arrived swiftly to find three individuals severely injured by the gunfire.

RLS Media learned that the victims included a 32-year-old woman who sustained multiple gunshot wounds, a 38-year-old man shot twice in the back, and another male shot three times in the leg, buttocks, foot, and hand.

While unconfirmed, reports indicated that a fourth individual may have also entered University Hospital with gunshot wounds.

All of the injured victims were transported to University Hospital, where they remain in critical condition.

The investigation into both incidents is ongoing, with authorities working to piece together the circumstances surrounding this surge of violence Ad No further information is available at this time.
