UPDATE: New Jersey Man Convicted of Aggravated Manslaughter

Authorities in Passaic County announced that Tyheem Jones, 40, of Hawthorne, was found guilty on November 3, after a jury trial before the Honorable Joseph Portelli J.S.C. of Aggravated Manslaughter.

AdPassaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said jury selection commenced on October 5.

Officials stated on November 3, following approximately one and a half days of jury deliberations, the Jury returned a verdict of guilty for Aggravated Manslaughter.

The State presented evidence that on August 27, 2020, Tyheem Jones, along with a juvenile and other unidentified suspects, assaulted Nicolas Reyes in the area of Auburn Street and Godwin Avenue following a shooting incident that had occurred on Godwin Avenue minutes earlier.

Evidence of the assault was captured on a surveillance camera, which depicted the entirety of the incident, which lasted approximately eleven minutes, officials said.

A sentencing date was scheduled before the Honorable Joseph Portelli, J.S.C., for January 25, 2024, officials say.
