The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has taken over the investigation into a shooting that left resulted in the death of a man in Orange on Sunday afternoon.
According to authorities, gunfire violence erupted just before 1:15 p.m. in the 100 block of Oakwood Place sending police to the scene where they found a man suffering a gunshot injury to the chest.
EMS rushed the man, who has been identified as Raymond White, 32, of Newark, to University Hospital where doctors provided unsuccessful treatment to save his life. White lost his fight for his life during the overnight hours according to authorities.
According to residents on Oakwood Place, the loud altercation broke out between two males just before they heard more than a half dozen popping noises that were later confirmed as gunfire.
Police are looking for a black male suspect who reportedly wore a mask when he ran from the scene.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
