Authorities in Orange are on the search for a suspect who opened fire in a neighborhood in the city on Thursday night.
According to preliminary reports, the incident happened at approximately 8:05 p.m., police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the vicinity of 530 Park Avenue.
When units arrived at the scene, they secured the area after finding a man and a female struck by bullets at that location.
Police say the woman suffered a gunshot wound in her leg while the man was shot in his arm.
EMS rushed both victims to University Hospital in Newark, where they are expected to survive according to police.
While officers canvassed the area for suspects and other possible victims, police did locate over a half dozen shell casings.
The suspect was masked when he fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction, according to police.
According to public information documents, the shooting incident placed a pause on the city's successful efforts in ridding violent crime in Orange. Open Public Records Act records and arrest reports show the Orange Police Department's massive stepped-up efforts in patrolling potential and -what used to be- key areas where crime has existed in the past.
These areas now are seeing noticeably less criminal activity, arrests and preventative police enforcement presence according to police records.

Although the motive for Thursday night's shooting is in the early stages of the investigation, police believe that the shooting was targeted.
The suspect remains at-large.
