A man performing work at a shopping center in Union was struck and killed by a co-worker this morning.
According to authorities, police responded to 1055 Hudson Street (Costco parking lot) shortly after 10 a.m. for reports of a person down at that location.
Units arrived to find the unidentified, unconscious and unresponsive person laying on the ground. The male worker was transported to Overlook Medical Center in Summit where he was pronounced dead.
A preliminary investigation revealed the the worker was performing work on the curb line while a second workers was maneuvering a 2007 GMC pickup. Officials say the driver unintentionally reversed striking and ultimately running over his coworker.
The incident remains under investigation.
The victim’s identity is being withheld at this time.
