Detectives for The Essex County Prosecutor's Office are leading the charge in looking into a fatal shooting that left a woman dead inside a house in Newark on Thursday evening.
Officials have not released a lot of information relating to the circumstances regarding the shooting that occurred at a house in the 50's block of South Jacobs Street at approximately 5:20 p.m. where reports of shots fired sent police to the address to investigate a possible domestic situation.
According to preliminary reports, units arrived at the scene and found a severely injured woman suffering apparent gunshot wounds.
The unidentified, unconscious and unresponsive woman was pronounced dead shortly after the shots fired incident.
At the crime scene, several people who said they were friends of the victim reported that her son was taken into custody by law enforcement officers.
Police have not officially released the identity of the woman or a suspect.
While the incident is believed to be domestic, the motive into the shooting is in its early stages of the investigation according to authorities.
