UPDATE: Man Sentenced for Fatal Shooting of Elizabeth Resident

Authorities in Union County announced that on Friday, May 24, an Elizabeth man was sentenced to 20 years in state prison for the fatal shooting of Shamar Brown, 34, of Elizabeth.AdUnion County Prosecutor William A. Daniel stated that Union County Superior Court Judge Stacy Boretz sentenced Deshon Fleming, 38, to 20 years in State Prison for Aggravated Manslaughter, directing that he must serve at least 85% of that sentence before being eligible for parole.

According to officials, at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 16, 2021, members of the Elizabeth Police Department responded to the intersection of Second Street and Bond Street in Elizabeth, where they found Brown having sustained a fatal gunshot wound.

“We are grateful for the hard work of Assistant Prosecutor Scott Peterson, Homicide Task Force Sergeant Christopher Scuorzo, Detective Richard Acosta, and officers of the Elizabeth Police Department on this case,” said Union County Prosecutor Daniel.

“The Union County Prosecutor’s Office, together with law enforcement agencies throughout Union County, are committed to ensuring that those who commit such egregious acts are held accountable. Our thoughts remain with Mr. Brown’s family and friends during this time.”
