A Neptune man initially suspected to have Ebola has been confirmed to have malaria, according to Lakewood authorities.
Police were dispatched to East County Line Road to assist a 66-year-old man with an unknown medical condition sometime after 9 p.m.
Upon arrival, police found the man outside his vehicle displaying Ebola-like symptoms.
The man, whose identity was not released, informed officials he had recently returned from Africa. The man was immediately rushed to Monmouth Medical Center in Lakewood where he was quarantined.
Test confirmed that the man initial believed to have Ebola is suffering from malaria, a disease commonly spread by mosquitoes.
The man, who is no longer isolated, is said to be doing well.
