A somber mood envelops Belleville following a violent shooting incident that has resulted in the death of a 37-year-old man and left his young child with non-fatal injuries.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is spearheading the investigation into this heart-wrenching event.
The incident happened near Branch Brook Park, located on the border of Newark.
Police rushed to the Mill Street side of the park in response to reports of shots being fired. Upon arrival, they discovered the gravely wounded man and his injured child.
Despite the immediate medical assistance and CPR efforts provided at the scene, the man succumbed to his injuries at Clara Maass Hospital.
Authorities have temporarily closed the 100 block of Mill Street as they delve into the investigation.
The motive behind this tragic shooting remains unclear, leaving the community in shock and grief over the senseless violence.
