Update: Man Injured in Paterson Police Officer-Involved Shooting Succumbs to Injuries

Authorities released an update for the police-involved shooting that occurred in the City of Paterson on March 2, 2017.

According to police, on March 2, 2017, at approximately 9:30 a.m., an on-duty Paterson Police Officer discharged a firearm in the area of Levine Street at Main Street.

The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Shooting Response Team was activated and it continues to investigate the use-of-force incident in accordance with Attorney General Directives.

Although the investigation remains active and ongoing, it is alleged that a male party with a knife was observed acting erratically on Levine Street. Two on-duty officers responded to the area and encountered this individual.

During the encounter, one of the officers discharged a firearm striking the male party who was armed with a knife. A knife was recovered at the scene, authorities added.

It is alleged that the male party with the knife - later identified as Ramon Andrade, 37, of Paterson - was subsequently transported to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson for treatment for his injuries.

Since March 2nd, Andrade received continuous medical care at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center but died early this morning at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center. His next-of-kin has been notified.

A post-mortem examination will be conducted by the Regional Medical Examiner in Newark at a later date.
