A man was fatally struck by an NJ Transit train during Tuesday morning's rush hour, according to authorities.The incident occurred at approximately 7:49 a.m. when Bergen County Line train 1154, traveling from Suffern, N.Y., to Hoboken, struck an adult male pedestrian near Garfield Station, close to Outwater Lane.
The train, which had departed Suffern at 7:09 a.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Hoboken at 8:14 a.m., was carrying around 600 passengers and crew.
Thankfully, no injuries were reported among those on board.
NJ Transit police are leading the investigation and were on the scene shortly after the incident.
As a result of the fatal strike, Bergen County Line service was temporarily suspended but has since resumed, with delays of up to 30 minutes.The identity of the victim has not yet been released, and officials continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
