Members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit announced the arrest of Charles Lowy, 68, of Jersey City, charging him with murder for the stabbing death of Anthony Bello, 77, of Jersey City, that occurred earlier this week in a Jersey City park.
As a result of the investigation, detectives were able to identify Lowy who lived in the immediate area of Pershing Field.
Police charged Lowy with Murder, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (Knife) and Possession of a Weapon (Knife) for an Unlawful Purpose.
The Medical Examiner’s Office on April 16th declared the cause of death to be a stab wound to the chest and manner of death to be homicide.
According to authorities, on April 15th at approximately 8:15 a.m., the Jersey City Police Department received a report of an aggravated assault at Pershing Field located at Manhattan and Central avenues in Jersey City.
Upon arrival, officers found an unresponsive male victim in the park who was bleeding from a wound to his torso.
The victim, later identified as Bello, was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at approximately 9:05 a.m.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Bello was involved in an altercation in the park with another male who subsequently walked away from the scene.
The above charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
