A man has been arrested for the fatal shooting of a woman inside a Newark supermarket, police said.
According to Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II, the shooting occurred in Newark's West Ward on Wednesday night.
Officers responded to reports of gunfire around 8:45 p.m. at a supermarket located in the 300 block of South 7th Street.
Upon arrival, they found 26-year-old Ms. Nakiyyah Blue of Bloomfield inside the store, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite the efforts of first responders, Blue was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:57 p.m.
Authorities have charged Anthony Hilliard in connection with the murder.
Reports indicate that Hilliard was taken into custody at Hudson County Jail after being released from a hospital, where he had been treated for gunshot wounds sustained the same night in an unidentified part of Jersey City.
The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation, with law enforcement actively working to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
