Essex County authorities have confirmed one fatality in a double shooting in Newark's West Ward Wednesday evening.
According to the prosecutor's office, at around 8 p.m., Newark Police officers responded to reports of shots fired near 86 Mount Vernon Place.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found two victims suffering gunshot wounds at that location.
Officials said one of the male victims was pronounced dead at the scene after a gunman fired multiple rounds in his direction then fled the scene.
According to county officials, the other victim was transported to University Hospital in serious condition.
Since Saturday, there have been just under a dozen individuals shot, with four (4) homicides that are now under investigation.
Police are reporting no arrests in any of the shootings at this time.
