The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office will charge a 16-year-old boy as an adult after he allegedly shot and killed his two parents, sister, and an elderly family friend late Sunday night inside a Long Branch home.
According to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office, at approximately 11:43 p.m., Long Branch Police received a 911 call from a person inside a home located at 345 Wall Street reporting a shooting with injuries.
Long Branch Police and Sheriff officers arrived at the scene and found three females and a male suffering gunshot wounds at that location.
The victims were identified as Mr. Steven Kologi 44 -father-, Mrs. Linda Kologi, 42, -mother-, Britney Kologi 18, -sister-, and Mary Shultz 70, -a family friend- were all pronounced dead a short time after they were found.
The prosecutor said they took the 16-year-old boy into custody without any hesitation and described it as an "uneventful arrest."
Monmouth County Prosecutor Chris Grammiccioni said that the suspect used a Century Arms semi-automatic rifle to kill his victims and was registered to a person inside the home but would not immediately say who the gun belonged to.
Authorities said the boy's brother and grandfather was home during the incident but did not suffer any injuries.
Prosecutor Grammiccioni is expecting to charge the teen with four counts of murder, and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes.
This identity of the boy or his criminal background history was not released due to his age.
