The Howell Township Traffic Safety Unit is investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred on Thursday morning.
Police said at approximately 1:55 am, a 30-year-old pedestrian from Lakewood Township was walking south on Route 9 between Alexander Avenue and Ford Road when he was struck by a vehicle that a 53-year-old Deal resident drove.
According to Howell Township Police, despite life-saving measures initiated by first responders, the pedestrian sustained a traumatic injury and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Howell Township Police Department, the Monmouth County Prosecutors Office and the Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART).
The driver did not sustain any injuries as a result of the crash.
The driver remained on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
Police said no summonses have been issued at this time.
