Authorities in Hudson County announced that on Friday, February 16, a jury convicted Ishmeal Coleman, 46, of all charges against him for the death of Takeela Wilson, 38, in Jersey City on August 12, 2018. Officials stated that Coleman was found guilty of Murder, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.
The verdict was delivered before the Honorable John A. Young, J.S.C., following a multi-week trial, officials say.
Officials said the State was represented in this matter by Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor Najma Rana.
According to officials, on August 12, 2018, at approximately 4:30 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department received a report of an injured female at 391 Forrest Street.
Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said, upon arrival, responding officers located an unresponsive victim – later identified as Takeela Wilson, of Jersey City – with an apparent stab wound to the torso.
Authorities say she was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 4:35 p.m.
The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the Cause of Death to be a Stab Wound of the Chest and the Manner of Death to be Homicide.
Officials said sentencing is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, May 16, 2024.
