UPDATE: Jersey City Woman Answering Knock at Door Struck by Gunfire; 2-Year-Old Also Shot

Police in Jersey City are on the search for a gunman who fired multiple shots inside a building that injured a mother and a child early Sunday morning.

According to a statement released by Jersey City Spokesperson Kimberly Wallace-Scalcion, at around 2 a.m. Jersey City police officers responded to 166 Myrtle Avenue for a report of a female shot.

Spokeswoman Wallace-Scalione said upon officers arrival, they located two victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

The 20-year-old female and a 2-year-old male were both transported to a local hospital and listed in stable condition.

Spokeswoman Wallace-Scalione said the initial report from the victim is that there was knocking on the door. and when she opened the door, gunfire rang out and she was struck.

Spokeswoman Wallace-Scalione said the incident occurred indoors.

The investigation is ongoing to establish the facts and circumstances surrounding this incident Spokeswoman Wallace-Scalione said.

The victims’ injuries were not reported as life-threatening.
