The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office has taken over the investigation into a shooting that killed a person in Jersey City on Thursday evening.
In a preliminary statement, authorities said at approximately 4:10 p.m., fired rounds near the intersection of Bostwick Avenue and Martin Luther King Drive.
Police officers arrived at the scene found an unidentified, unconscious and unresponsive male suffering bullet wounds in his head and chest at that location.
The victim was rushed to Jersey City Medical Center, where he died a short time later.
Police, a second victim, was found suffering a non-life-threatening graze wound in their arm.
Police detained one person after a foot pursuit, but officials have not confirmed if the individual was officially charged with the shooting at this time.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
