Friends and family of a Jersey City firefighter have identified Matthew Nierstedt as the passenger killed in an early morning crash.
Police, firefighters and EMS responded to the area of Congress Street and Paterson Plank Road at about 2 a.m. for a report of a head-on collision.
Upon arrival, emergency responders found two severely damaged vehicle with injured occupants inside the cars at that location.
According to preliminary reports, at least four victims were rushed to Jersey City Medical Center suffering various serious injuries. Matthew Nierstedt, a passenger in one of the vehicles, was pronounced dead a short time later.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
