Authorities in Ocean County announced that on February 21, J’Shawn Cutler, 28, of Jackson, was found guilty of Aggravated Manslaughter in connection with the death of Isaiah Renouf, 23, of Jackson, following a nearly month-long jury trial before the Honorable Kimarie Rahill, J.S.C. Mr. Renouf’s death occurred in Jackson Township on June 19, 2020.
Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said in rendering its verdict, the jury concluded beyond a reasonable doubt that Cutler recklessly caused the death of Mr. Renouf under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to human life.
The jury also found Cutler guilty of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, OCPO officials say.
Ocean County authorities said Cutler is scheduled to be sentenced by Judge Rahill on April 11, 2025, at which time he faces up to 30 years in New Jersey State Prison – subject to the terms of the No Early Release Act.
According to OCPO officials, on June 19, 2020, at approximately 5:00 a.m., Officers from the Jackson Township Police Department responded to a 911 call from a residence on Cannon Boulevard in reference to a wounded individual.
Responding Officers found Isaiah Renouf on the floor of the residence with a large wound to his chest, Ocean County authorities stated.
Ocean County officials said that lifesaving measures were attempted at the scene; Mr. Renouf was then transported to Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus in Lakewood, where he was pronounced deceased.
A post-mortem examination by the Ocean County Medical Examiner determined the cause of Mr. Renouf’s death to be a stab wound to the heart, and the manner of death to be homicide, OCPO officials said.
OCPO officials said that a subsequent investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Jackson Township Police Department, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, revealed that Cutler stabbed Mr. Renouf in the residence and caused his death.
According to Ocean County authorities, Cutler was apprehended on June 19, 2020, following a motor vehicle stop by Officers from the Lakewood Township Police Department.

Cutler has been detained in the Ocean County Jail since his apprehension, Ocean County officials say.
