The Essex County Prosecutor's Office is stepping up efforts to find the perpetrator responsible for the murder of a man in Newark, which occurred just over a week ago.
The deadly incident took place around 9:27 p.m. on August 1st near Woodland Cemetery, on the 10th Street side at 671 South 10th Street.
Upon receiving reports of gunshots, Newark Police were dispatched to the location, where they found Mr. Eric Givens, a 32-year-old local, critically injured.
Mr. Givens was later declared deceased, according to county officials.
Police quickly secured the area, finding multiple shell casings as detectives initiated a thorough search.
During this time, officials from University Hospital reported that two other individuals with gunshot wounds had been admitted to the emergency room, presumably injured at the same site.
There were early indications that these individuals left the hospital before they could be interviewed by the police, a detail still pending official confirmation.
As the investigation into the motive continues, the shooter remains free, prompting ongoing search efforts by law enforcement.
