Police in Newark are searching for a suspect who fired multiple rounds at a victim that left the person seriously injured at a location in the city Wednesday evening.
According to police, gunfire rang out about a block away from the D&S Check Cashing place located between the intersections of South 18th and 19th streets and 15th Avenue around 8 p.m.
When police arrived at the scene, they found blood evidence and over a dozen shell casings.
Police placed hospitals in the region on alert for potential walk-in gunshot victims.
While detectives investigated the scene, officials at University Hospital notified police that a male gunshot victim was dropped off at the emergency room suffering bullet wounds.
His condition was only reported as severe, and no other information was available on the injury.
Police have not released a motive for the shooting at this time.
