UPDATE: Hazlet Crash Under Investigation That Killed Pedestrian

Authorities in Monmouth County announced that the cause of a pedestrian being struck and killed by a motor vehicle in Hazlet is currently under investigation.AdProsecutor Raymond S. Santiago stated that on Sunday, December 8, at approximately 7:49 p.m., members of the Hazlet Township Police Department responded to the intersection of State Highway 36 and Union Avenue for a report of a vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision.

According to Monmouth County officials, a preliminary investigation revealed that a male driver was traveling southbound in the right lane on State Highway 36, and as he approached the intersection near Union Avenue, a collision with a female pedestrian occurred.

As a result, the pedestrian was taken to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased at 8:33 p.m., Hazlet Township Police said. 

Officials say the driver remained on the scene.

An investigation involving members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and the Hazlet Township Police Department remains active and ongoing, County authorities stated.AdNo charges or summonses have been issued regarding the incident at this time.
