Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, and Glen Ridge Police Chief Sheila Byron-Lagattuta announced today that the Glen Ridge Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating a fatal crash that occurred last night that resulted in two deaths.
Police say at approximately 10 p.m. Monday, two men were killed in a single-car fatal crash in the area of High Street and Bloomfield Avenue in Glen Ridge.
According to authoritities, both men were pronounced dead at the scene.
The preliminary investigation indicates they were traveling in a 2008 Mercedes Benz when the driver hit a light pole which caused the car to strike a tree then burst into flames.
The driver of the car, Galo G. Flores, 25, of Harrison was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:17 p.m. The passenger, Carlos Nieves, 20, of Newark was also pronounced dead at the scene at 10:17 p.m. police said
The investigation is active and ongoing.
