Authorities are investigating a shooting incident in Elizabeth after a man suffering from gunshot wounds arrived at the emergency department of Trinitas Regional Medical Center on Friday evening.
According to hospital officials, the unidentified male victim was treated for injuries that were not initially considered life-threatening.
The hospital immediately notified local law enforcement.
Residents living near the intersection of Route 1&9 and Flora Street reported hearing gunfire shortly after a crash occurred in the area.
Witnesses also stated that one of the vehicles involved caught fire following the collision.
At this time, authorities have not released details on the events leading up to the shooting or whether the crash is connected to the incident.
The investigation remains active as police work to piece together the sequence of events.
