Police officials in Newark are attempting to determine if the same gunmen went on a shooting spree Thursday firing multiple rounds in three neighborhoods including around a park and school in Central Ward.
Officers scrambled to the shots-fired calls that began around 1 p.m. in the area of 25 Avon Avenue.
Units arrived and found multiple rifle shell casings but after searching the neighborhood, no victims were found.
While officers investigated the Avon Avenu shooting, some of the units broke away after learning that someone began shooting near and park and behind a nearby charter school.
About a half dozen police officers taped off a small section of Boyd Street at Muhammad Ali Avenue after they found an unoccupied vehicle riddled with bullets.
The car was found in the rear of Kipp Bold & Thrive Academy Charter School and on the side of Nat Turner Park.
The driver reportedly fled from the vehicle on foot.
Police are also hoping to connect a shots-fired incident that erupted in the Vailsburg section. In this shooting, police responded to reports of a shooting near the intersection of Plymouth Street and Isabella Avenue.
Units arrived and found an unoccupied crashed vehicle with several bullet holes.
Newark Police will handle the investigation into all three shootings.
