Police in Montclair are reporting the arrest of four juveniles who reside in the city of Newark on attempted car theft charges that occurred Saturday.
According to a statement from Montclair police officials, officers responded to the area of Club Street and Valley Road after the resident reported observing four males entering his vehicle parked in his driveway.
Officials said responding officers located four males matching the description of the suspects leaving the scene.
Upon observing the officers, police said the males fled on foot in different directions.
Two 17-year-old males from Newark were apprehended on Valley Road and a 15-year-old and a 17- year-old from -also from Newark- were located hiding behind a residence on Bellaire Drive.
Police officials said all the juveniles were charged with Obstruction of Justice and Resisting Arrest.
According to Montclair Police, the 15-year-old male was found to be in possession of proceeds belonging to a resident of Valley Road.
Officers checked with that resident, who determined his vehicle had also been entered and items were removed.
This juvenile was additionally charged with Receiving Stolen Property. Additionally, one of the 17-year-old males was found to have a key to a Mazda.
Police said it was later determined that this key belonged to the vehicle reported stolen from Brookfield Road earlier in the day.
The incident remains under investigation.
