UPDATE: Four Arrested in Newark Shooting Incident

A tremendous display of police action and professionalism followed a shooting incident in Newark this morning, leading to the arrest of multiple suspects believed to be involved in the West Ward shooting.Ad

Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé reports multiple arrests following a shooting incident that wounded a woman in the West Ward this morning.

At approximately 10:01 a.m. on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, police observed two males exiting a stolen vehicle at S. 10th Street and South Orange Avenue.

The two males fired weapons, injuring a woman.

The victim was transported to University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is in stable condition.

Following the shooting, the two suspects re-entered the vehicle, leading to a brief police pursuit.

The driver and his three passengers exited the vehicle at Central Avenue and South 11th Street, where all four adult male suspects were apprehended.Ad

Three firearms were recovered from the scene. 

Before the shooting, police had been investigating the vehicle, as it had been reported stolen.

The incident remains under investigation.
