UPDATE: Firefighter Injured in Newark Fire

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose reports that fireman was treated for a cut while fighting a fire Saturday morning.

According to fire officials, at approximately 11:49 a.m., firefighters responded to the report of a fire at a vacant 3-story wood frame structure located at 60 Stuyvesant Avenue.

Officials said the fire was declared under control at 12:02 p.m. and a firefighter required medical attention for a laceration sustained while fighting the fire.

"As is customary, the Arson Squad is investigating the cause and origins of the fire," said Newark Public safety Director Anthony Ambrose.

Director Ambrose is urging anyone with information about fire’s cause or origin to call the Department's 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477) or 1-877-NWK-GUNS (1-877-695-4867).

All anonymous Crime Stopper tips are kept confidential and could result in a reward.
