Authorities in Essex County are investigating a shooting that fatally injured a male in Newark's West Ward Friday morning.
Gunfire erupted in the vicinity of South Orange Avenue and South 20th Street just after midnight, prompting a police investigation.
Several police officers arrived at the scene and found shell casings and a male victim suffering gunshot wounds.
Th unidentified, unconscious and unresponsive person was rushed to Univesity Hospital while EMTs administered CPR.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that the victim died overnight.
Police investigating the scene found a vehicle struck by several bullets, but no other injuries were reported.
Officials announced no arrests in the shooting.
