A tragic wreck on I-280 claimed the life of a 32-year-old electric scooter rider over the weekend, as reported by New Jersey State Police.
State troopers responded to the eastbound section of the highway in Newark at 4:17 a.m. on Sunday.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the scooter rider, whose identity remains undisclosed pending family notification, was struck by a Chrysler passenger vehicle near milepost 13.8.
The collision inflicted fatal injuries on the scooter rider.
The initial crash triggered a chain reaction, involving a Kia Sorrento and at least one other vehicle.
According to authorities, the driver of the Kia swerved to avoid hitting the victim, who was lying in the right lane.
Witnesses said the driver left the scene after striking the victim.
The New Jersey State Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident.
