Authorities in Camden County are currently investigating a tragic crash that claimed the life of 49-year-old Ms. Natasha Carruthers, of Camden but a native of Newark, Essex County. The collision, which also injured a passenger, occurred in the early morning hours on Route 38 near Coopers Landing Road.
Cherry Hill Police Chief Robert Kempf reported that around 4 a.m., emergency services were called to the scene of a crash involving a 2022 Chevy Impala.
Upon arrival, they encountered a severely damaged vehicle with Carruthers and an unconscious male trapped inside.
Unfortunately, Carruthers was pronounced dead at the scene due to the impact.
The preliminary investigation reveals that the Chevy Impala, driven by Carruthers, failed to navigate the traffic circle properly. The car went over the curb onto a grassy area, colliding with a utility pole at high speed.
Police say the impact was so severe that it split the car in half, spinning it around to hit another pole on the driver's side.
The male passenger, whose identity has not been disclosed, was rushed to Cooper University Hospital. He is currently in serious condition.
This tragic incident has sparked an active and ongoing investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash.
The community mourns the loss of Carruthers and hopes for the speedy recovery of the injured passenger.
