UPDATE: Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Investigate Officer Weapons Discharge

Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced today that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Professional Standards Bureau is investigating an incident in which an Essex County Sheriff’s Officer discharged his weapon in the vicinity of Goodwin and Renner Avenues in Newark at approximately 1 p.m. today.

Authorities said no one was shot and no one sustained injuries.

As per Attorney General Guidelines, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Professional Standard Bureau must respond and investigate when a law enforcement officer discharges a weapon.

The investigation is active and ongoing. At this time, no other details are available.
