UPDATE: Elizabeth Woman Charged After Striking, Critically Injuring Pedestrian in Newark

Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose announced today that Fanny Tacuri Sanchez, 34, of Elizabeth has been arrested following a pedestrian incident that left a Bayonne man with life-threatening injuries.

The incident occurred on Wednesday at 8:49 p.m. in the vicinity of 73 Prospect Street in Newark.

A gray four-door Nissan Altima struck a 43-year-old male pedestrian. A total of three cars were involved in the collision.

EMS transported the victim to University Hospital where he remains in critical condition suffering a massive leg injury.

The preliminary investigation indicates the pedestrian was struck and the impact was significant enough to cause serious bodily injury, which includes severe injury to his legs.

Both the victim and the driver where taken to University Hospital.

The driver, who had an invalid driver’s license, has been charged with driving while under the influence and second degree aggravated assault.

These are accusations.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they enter a guilty plea or are found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
