Authorities in Elizabeth are investigating the death of a woman discovered unresponsive on a sidewalk early Wednesday morning, according to city officials.
Elizabeth City Spokeswoman Ruby Contreras reported that the woman, believed to be in her 60s, was found unconscious near an apartment building in the 600 block of East Jersey Street.
Community residents alerted police after noticing the woman lying motionless on the sidewalk.
Officials have not identified the woman and noted that preliminary examinations showed no immediate evidence of foul play or an apparent cause of death.
However, the incident remains under active investigation.
As of now, the Union County Prosecutor's Office has not confirmed involvement in the ongoing investigation.
