UPDATE: East Orange Man Wanted for Jersey City Murder Arrested in New York

Police say on Thursday, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit with assistance from the U.S. Marshals New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Joseph Summers in New York City.

Officials say Summers, 51, of East Orange, was wanted in connection with the murder of Gregory Harvey on Wilkinson Avenue in Jersey City on Friday, April 5th.

Police say they arrested summers without incident.

Accoridng to police, on April 8, 2019, Summers was charged with Murder in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3, a first- degree crime: Unlawful Possession of a Weapon in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5, a fourth- degree crime; Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4, a third-degree crime; and Hindering Apprehension or Prosecution in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:29- 3, a third-degree crime.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit for the investigation and arrest, the U.S. Marshals New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force for assisting with the arrest and the Jersey City Police Department for assisting in the investigation.

The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office has determined the cause of death to be Blunt Force Trauma and the manner of death to be Homicide.

On April 6, 2019, shortly after 1:30 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department received a report of an unresponsive male at 112 Wilkinson Avenue in Jersey City. Responding Jersey City Police Officers found Jersey City resident Gregory Harvey, age 60, inside that location with apparent head injuries. He was pronounced dead at approximately 2:05 p.m.

The above charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
