Police in Newark are reporting the arrest of Mr. Marius N. Smith, 48, of East Orange, in connection with a stabbing that occurred last night.
Police say shortly after 6:25 p.m., officers responded to Bergen Street and Lehigh Avenue on a call of a suspicious person with a weapon.
Responding officers located a woman who had been stabbed following a quarrel with Marius Smith.
The victim was transported to University Hospital for treatment.
Officers located Smith at Bergen Street and Parkview Terrace and he was arrested without incidentaccording to police.
Police charged Smith with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.
These charges are merely accusations.
The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
