Early Saturday morning, at approximately 12:12 am, officials say units were dispatched to Route 1 North and Fashion Plaza Drive for a reported motor vehicle collision.
Police say upon their arrival, units discovered a severe crash that involved two vehicles.
According to police, the northbound side of the highway was closed, and emergency responders went to work to free then treat the occupants of both vehicles.
Due to the serious nature, traffic investigators from the department were also summoned to the scene.
Police say an early investigation revealed that a 2007 BMW X3 traveling Route 1 South disregarded the red traffic signal, entered the intersection, and struck the second vehicle, a 2016 Chevy Malibu, on the driver's side of that vehicle that was exiting the Walmart Shopping Center.
Unfortunately, as a result of the crash, the driver of the Chevy Malibu died on the scene.
Police identified the victim as Mr. Wen-Fu Lin of East Brunswick. Police say the remaining involved occupants were transported to area hospitals suffering non-life threatening injuries.
The collision is still under investigation by North Brunswick Police Traffic Investigators. Anyone with any information should contact them at 732-247-0922 x316.
