Police in Newark reports that shortly after 3:30 a.m. today, two off-duty police officers and the wife of one of the officers were shot at by occupants of a vehicle that also attempted to force the officers off the road.
According to police, the officers, traveling in the area of the Newark Airport entrance at Routes 1 and 9 South, were occupying a private vehicle and heading to the airport.
Officials say the officers did not return fire, although the private vehicle they occupied was struck.
The officer’s wife suffered a minor injury and was transported to an area hospital for treatment then released.
Additional members of the Newark Police Division pursued the suspect vehicle into Bloomfield, where one suspect of four was apprehended.
Police say charges are pending and the investigation is continuing.
