A 26-year-old Harrison man was sentenced to nine years in prison today after shooting his sleeping wife because there wasn't enough room in the bed.
Authorities said that on Feb. 18, 2017, Víctor Sagastume - who had been drinking brandy and taking ecstasy - arrived at his Washington Street home sometime around 2 a.m., walked up to his sleeping wife and shot her twice in the chest.
According to police, Sagastume then drove his injured wife to Jersey City Medical Center with their children in the car.
Officials charged Sagastume with attempted murder but he ultimately pleaded guilty to aggravated assault.
Hudson County Superior Court Judge John Young today sentenced Sagastume to nine years in prison of which he must serve at least 7½ years before becoming eligible for parole and must then serve three years of parole.
