Authorities in Essex County are investigating the cause of a crash on Saturday at the Newark East Orange border.
At approximately 2:30 p.m., a car heading eastbound toward Central Avenue slammed head-on with a westbound vehicle near South 17th Street.
The violent border collision had Newark emergency responders on the scene extricating trapped occupants while police diverted traffic in the area of The Division of Motor Vehicle.
Both drivers were taken to University Hospital in Newark, and the extent of their injuries has not been confirmed.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
