Authorities in Essex County are searching for the driver involved in a hit-and-run that left a woman severely injured in East Orange late Thursday night.
The incident occurred near the intersection of Central Avenue and Shepherd Street shortly before 11:30 p.m.
According to witnesses, the unidentified woman entered the roadway and was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene at high speed.
Emergency responders rushed the victim to the hospital, where she remains in critical condition after CPR was administered at the scene.
The suspect remains at large, and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is continuing its investigation.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
