NJ State Police officials have confirmed one fatality in a violent crash on the NJ Turnpike in Union County Friday morning.
Sergeant Alejandro Goez said the crash was reported in the northbound outer lanes near mile marker 100.8 in Elizabeth around 2:20 a.m.
According to Sgt. Goez, the collision involved an overturned tractor trailer and a Hyundai passenger vehicle.
As a result of the crash, Sgt, Goez said the driver of the Hyundai sustained fatal injuries.
The tractor trailer driver was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. NJ State Police closed the outer trick lanes for the crash investigation and cleanup.
The cause is under investigation.
